If your MUA 5 speed loses reverse it could be the reverse lockout pin. To fix it loosen pin, remove 4 bolt shifter cover, push lock out forward tighten pin, reassemble shifter. The fill plug is on the passenger side of trans, this pin is on drivers just below shifter.

Start by taking the lock out pin completely out of it's threading. Take off the shift boot and open up the top of the transmission. Pull out the shifter lever and looked inside. I found the sliding lock out plate immediately. If you are looking at the opening from above, the plate is in the forward, driver's side area. You have to slide it towards the rear of the truck. It is very easy to do. Now there is an exact sequence you have to do this in. I know because I did it wrong about three times in a row before I got it right (which was really fun.. let me tell you )

-First remove the lock out pin from the drivers side housing at the top of the transmission.

-Second slide the lock out towards the rear of the truck

-Third reattach the shifter lever assembly and ONLY shift it into reverse and leave it there. If you shift it into other gears the lockout will engage again while the pin is out. Seriously I had to do this three times before I figured it out. Tightening and loosening the lock out pin, climbing under the truck back into the cab, taking apart the shifter assembly.. doing it over and over. It sucked.

-Fourth step is to climb back underneath the truck and put the lock out pin back in it's bung. Now you are done.
