2.6L Timing Belt Procedure
From Planetisuzoo Wiki
Replacing the timing belt on the 2.6L 4ZE1 engine isn't the worst project you'll face on this truck. It's not overly difficult and no special knowledge or skill is required.
Tools you'll need:
Steering wheel puller (bolt kind) 2 6mm x 1.00 bolts, 40mm or so long 1/2" drive 24mm socket (balancer) 1/2" drive 22mm socket (a/c idler) 3/8" drive 10mm socket 3/8" drive 12mm socket 3/8" drive 14mm socket 3/8" drive 3" extension 3/8" drive ratchet 1/2" drive ratchet 1/2" drive impact wrench 12mm combination wrench 14mm combination wrench
Supplies you'll need:
New water pump (preferably OEM) New timing belt (preferably OEM, Napa/Gates or Dayco acceptable) New timing belt tensioner (DO NOT SKIP THIS ITEM) New coolant Antisieze
To begin, loosen the 12mm bolt holding the air injection pump to the adjusting arm. Loosen the bottom bolt enough to allow you to slide the pump inward toward the engine. Remove the belt from the air pump, then fish it through the blades of the fan, and then tag it so you remember where it goes.
You'll need to remove the battery now. Remove it by disconnecting the negative terminal first.
Once the battery is out of the way, use your 14mm combination wrench to loosen the adjusting (outer) bolt on the power steering pump. The pump may not move easily, in that case slightly loosen the other 14mm bolt holding the pump to its bracket. Do not loosen the 17mm nut holding the pressure hose onto the pump. Remove the belt from the pump and balancer, then mark the belt and get it out of your way.
