2.6L O2 Sensor light reset instructions

(Return to Troopers.)

If you have a 2.6L engine and the O2 sensor light is on, replacing the sensor will NOT turn off the light. Having the O2 sensor light on does NOT necessarily mean you have a bad O2 sensor. Isuzu decided that every 90K miles, the sensor needed changing, regardless of whether it was really bad or not. So instead of an actual diagnostics to determine if the sensor was bad, they turn on that O2 sensor light every 90K miles to remind you to change the sensor. Here's how to reset the light:

This is info from this thread on the forums: http://forum.planetisuzoo.com/viewtopic.php?t=3162&highlight=sensor+light+reset

Apparently on non-Troopers, you move a screw from one hole to another. On 1st Gen Troopers there is a slide switch on the back of the cluster.

You can either wait 90k miles for the light to go off, or remove the cluster and move the screw from one hole to another. It should be obvious as both holes are labelled the same, and they are near the middle of the circuit board.

Anyway, what is the " cluster" that you guys refer to and how can I reset the O2 light? I have an 89 Amigo 4x4 XS 2.6L. It's the unit that houses the gauges. So you'll need to remove the trim, then the "gauge cluster" as it's called. On the back are the two screws.

So, basically, i just move the screw to the other available slot, so that after 90K more miles the screw will return to its original slot? Exactly. To be sure you do it correctly, snap all the wires back in, turn on the car see if the light does go out ... then reinstall the cluster

I took the cluster out and saw behind the meter a bunch of connections and circuits with the lightbulbs and some screws. There was nowhere to be found anything related to O2. I took some pics but don't know how to include them here. Will try to upload them later so you can see, but in the meantime, could anyone enlighten me as what specific screws I must take out and re-attach and where? Is it at the odometer cable sticking out or is it behind the meter? If so, which one? There is some japanese characters behind and others that say KSW and DSW, but I am not sure if that is the correct location.

ok the gold screw thats in one of those holes (KSW or DSW) take the screw out of the one and put it in the other.....that resets the O2 light until the next 90k (90k,180k,270k.....doesnt matter when you did it, like 92k then 182k, doesnt work like that). plug in the harness and start the truck see if the lights out.. If so, put it back together. DONT FORGET THE SPEEDO CABLE....it can be a PIA to get to "CLICK" into the cluster....

Thanks lowzone and dragonfly. Indeed was pretty easy to do. Attached are pictures from the cluster showing the screw KSW I took from one side and placed it in another: From the lower left of the Speedo connector to the lower left of the imprinted number "658". There used to be a small masking tape hiding it. I moved the screw and connected to test it and the light went out. Hopefully the car will stay in shape so that I can see it again next time to light up!

Don't know about the rest of them but on both my 1st gen Troopers, there's a slide switch on the back of the cluster. No removal necessary, just reach up under the dash and feel around until you find it, slide it opposite to which ever position it's in.

there's an even easier way, so you don't have to do this screw-chaning thing every 90,000 miles --- remove the bulb - the whole remove the cluster nonsense took longer than replacing the sensor, which pissed me off. no screw-changing for me.
