The Isuzu 12-bolt axle was used from 88-97 in the Trooper, 89-94 in the Amigo and for some period of time in the pup. After 1997 Isuzu went to the Modified 12-bolt in the Trooper.

History

  • From 1988 (with the introduction of the 2.6l engine) through 1991 the Trooper had a version of the 12-bolt that had leaf springs. This version is XX inches wide from WMS to WMS. The e-brake system uses the rear brake caliper. It has disk brakes. The standard ratio is 4.56, although 4.77 was available, just very rare. This axle was also used in the 1989 through 1993 Amigos with the 2.6l engine.
  • In 1992 the Trooper 12-bolt was widened and changed to coil springs. The ebrake system was also changed to a small drum brake that is built into the middle of the disk brake rotor. It is still cable operated. The ratio is 4.56. ABS sensors were mounted to either the top of the differential for rear-wheel ABS trucks, or at the ends of the axle tubes for four-wheel ABS trucks. This axle was used until 1995.5 ( when wide-track 2nd gen Troopers with fender flares were released).
  • The 1994 Amigo 12-bolt is like the 1992-1995.5 Trooper axle but it has leaf spring mounts instead of coil spring mounts.
  • The 1995.5 through 1997 Trooper axle is the same as the 1992-1995.5 one, but it is XXX inches wide.
